Tainan City Secures 250 Million NTD Subsidy to Build 202 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Tainan City is significantly enhancing its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by establishing 202 new charging stations across the city. This initiative, supported by a 250 million New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) subsidy from the Environmental Protection Administration, aims to alleviate "range anxiety" for EV owners and promote greener transportation.

All construction for the charging stations is complete, with phased activations pending the completion of power supply by Taiwan Power Company. The ninth phase of deployment, scheduled for August 8th, will introduce 13 slow-charging spots across seven administrative districts. These new locations include parking lots at the Tainan Cultural Center, Anping Pet Sports Park, Yongkang Guomin Road, Jiangjun Feishalun Park, Shinshih Shugu Park, Shinshih Fengyu Sports Court, and Xinying Stadium.

The ninth batch of charging stations will go online tomorrow (8th), adding 13 slow-charging spots in 6 administrative districts and 7 locations, including parking lots at the Tainan Cultural Center, Anping Pet Sports Park, Yongkang Guomin Road, Jiangjun Feishalun Park, Shinshih Shugu Park, Shinshih Fengyu Sports Court, and Xinying Stadium.

These designated spots are exclusively for electric vehicle charging. Tainan City's Transportation Bureau has warned that regular vehicles found occupying these spaces will be fined 1,200 NTD, in accordance with the Parking Lot Act. Currently, Tainan has 122 public charging stations operational, offering 50 fast-charging and 180 slow-charging spaces. Since their launch in May, these stations have facilitated approximately 8,300 charging sessions, consuming about 180,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, indicating a growing demand for EV charging facilities.

Usage statistics reveal that the charging station at the Guantian Health Center in Guantian District is the most utilized, with 420 charging sessions. It is followed closely by stations at the Zengwen Municipal Vision Park in Madou District and the South Island Road Municipal Vision Park in Anping District, each with around 400 sessions. Other popular locations include the Madou District Office (315 sessions), Liujia Sports Park, and Xuejia District Parking Lot 3 (each with approximately 300 sessions).

These charging spaces are exclusively for electric vehicle charging. If regular vehicles illegally occupy them, they can be fined 1,200 NTD according to the Parking Lot Act after verification.
