New Taipei City Expands Metro Network to 189km by 2035, Connecting 10 Million Residents

New Taipei City is significantly expanding its metro network, evolving from the 'Three Rings Six Lines' plan to the more ambitious 'Four Rings Eight Lines' initiative. This comprehensive upgrade aims to create a vast transportation web by 2035, spanning 189 kilometers and encompassing 182 stations.

The newly designated fourth ring will connect key areas including Wugu, Taishan, Banqiao, and link with the Wanda-Zhonghe Line, the New Taipei Circular Line, and the North-South and East sections of the MRT. Additionally, the plan incorporates the new Zhonghe-Guangfu Line and the Xinbei-Taoyuan Line.

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih highlighted the progress, noting that eight years of development have already seen the completion of four metro lines, adding 40 kilometers and 38 stations. The city's operational metro network currently stands at 108 kilometers, the longest in Taiwan.

The 'Eight Lines' of the new plan include the Tamsui-Kairong Line, Anding Line, Xizhi-Minsheng Line, Keelung Line, Bali Line, Shenkeng Line, Zhonghe-Guangfu Line, and Xinbei-Taoyuan Line. These lines will feature over 30 major transfer hubs, ensuring seamless connections with Taiwan Railways, High-Speed Rail, and Airport MRT systems. This extensive network is projected to serve the daily commuting needs of nearly 10 million residents across Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan.
