Tainan explosion impacts 40 households, showing devastating scenes inside affected homes

A fire and explosion incident in Tainan's Annan District has left around 40 homes significantly impacted. The blast shook residents, and the aftermath revealed extensive damage to both the exteriors and interiors of the affected buildings.

I was startled by the explosion, and then I smelled the fire on the second floor. I couldn't put it out myself, so I had to escape first.

One resident, surnamed Chen, recounted being startled by the explosion and subsequently discovering a fire on the second floor. Unable to extinguish it themselves, they were forced to flee. The force of the blast shattered the glass of their main door and deformed the frame, creating a narrow escape route. Chen expressed uncertainty about how to proceed with the cleanup and repairs given the extensive damage.

Another affected resident, Ms. Chen, described the second and third floors of her home, which were used for storage and living space respectively, as being almost completely destroyed. The ceiling collapsed, and glass windows shattered. Fortunately, no one was residing on the third floor at the time, and her family members are safe. She is currently the only one staying at the property, having arranged for her elders to stay elsewhere.

The glass door of my main entrance shattered, and the frame was deformed. I had to shout for help to find an escape gap through the deformed door frame.

A couple living near the explosion site has temporarily relocated to a nearby factory for shelter. Their home sustained severe internal and external damage, with parts of the structure burned and ongoing leaks causing flooding inside due to continuous rain, rendering it uninhabitable. The female resident mentioned they are prioritizing salvaging essential belongings before figuring out their next steps.

The second and third floors were originally for family members living together. The second floor bedroom was used as a storage room with many items piled up. The third floor was almost completely destroyed, the ceiling collapsed, and the glass windows shattered instantly. Fortunately, no one was living there at the time, and my family members are all safe.
