Tainan Improves Campus Accessibility, Investing Over 110 Million Yuan in Three Years

Tainan City is making significant strides in creating more inclusive and accessible campus environments, having invested over 110 million yuan in the past three years to upgrade facilities in its schools. The city has comprehensively assessed accessibility in 271 high schools and below, identifying 17,523 facility and equipment needs. Through collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Tainan secured 111.56 million yuan in subsidies, leading to improvements in 164 schools. These enhancements include accessible pathways, ramps, handrails, restrooms, and elevators, all designed to ensure safe and independent movement for individuals with mobility challenges. Education Bureau Director Zheng Xinhua emphasized that these improvements extend beyond students with disabilities, benefiting parents, visitors, and the elderly. He highlighted that building accessible campuses is a crucial step toward educational equity. The bureau plans to continue working with the ministry, focusing on precise improvements based on each school's specific needs. They will also strengthen awareness of accessibility principles and establish regular inspection and maintenance mechanisms for these facilities.
