Tainan's Jiiali District to Build Multi-Story Parking Garage

Tainan's Jiiali District is set to gain a new multi-story parking garage in its city center, with construction slated to commence early next year and an estimated duration of two years. This development is a response to the significant increase in parking demand fueled by population growth in the northern Tainan region, partly attributed to the spillover effects from the Southern Taiwan Science Park. The Jiiali District Jinxue Road multi-story parking lot project had its bidding process on July 21st, with a general contractor to be selected on August 17th. The structure will be four floors above ground plus a rooftop level, covering a base area of nearly 0.3 hectares. It is projected to offer 180 car parking spaces and 80 motorcycle parking spaces. The first floor is planned for multi-purpose use, and the total project cost is 514 million New Taiwan dollars, with applications submitted to the central government for a subsidy of 207 million NTD. Legislator Guo Guowen convened a site inspection today, August 3rd, with officials including Lin Congli, deputy director of the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and Deputy Mayor Zhao Qinghui. Zhao Qinghui stated that the utilization of the first-floor space will be coordinated with the Social Affairs Bureau, Civil Affairs Bureau, and local entities to discuss its use for social welfare, public childcare, or as an activity center. If there is no local demand, the priority will be to establish a commercial space. Lin Congli noted that current funding for parking lot projects under the Ministry of Transportation's Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program is exhausted. However, following legislator Guo's appeal, the ministry has reserved remaining funds through a special project to support Tainan's parking lot construction. Once the amount is finalized, it will be allocated to the Jinxue parking lot, provided the engineering contract is awarded by the end of the year.
