Taipei Car Turns Into Oncoming Lane, Hits Bus at Red Light

A car driver in Taipei's Xinyi District mistakenly drove into oncoming traffic while making a right turn, subsequently colliding with a bus. The incident occurred around 9:28 a.m. on Zhongxiao East Road Section 5, near Alley 22.

The 40-year-old driver, identified by the surname Xie, was operating his car eastbound on Zhongxiao East Road Section 5. As he attempted to turn right into Alley 22, he reportedly failed to observe his surroundings and veered into the opposing lane. His vehicle's front end then struck a bus that was waiting for the traffic light at the intersection.

The impact caused Xie to suffer minor abrasions to his hands and feet. Fortunately, the bus driver, a 49-year-old man surnamed Xiao, and the more than 10 passengers on board escaped the collision without any injuries. The sound of the crash drew the attention of passersby, with some capturing the event on video and sharing it online, initially leading to mistaken reports of two buses colliding.

Police responded quickly to the scene. They provided first aid to Xie and secured the area to manage traffic flow. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The exact cause of the accident and the determination of responsibility are currently under investigation by the traffic police department. Authorities are urging drivers to remain focused and attentive, especially when turning or entering alleys, to prevent similar accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
