The controversy erupted following a visit by a Democratic Progressive Party mayoral candidate, Shen Po-yang, who signed the shop's wall. The incident escalated when his signature was subsequently covered by another, sparking a wave of one-star reviews.

In a show of solidarity, Hsu Shu-hua visited the shop to purchase lunch, posting her support on Facebook. She expressed her fondness for the establishment, stating that she often considers it for lunch and has eaten there just the day before. Hsu emphasized that she "didn't even have to think" about where to eat that day, choosing Dong Fa Hao again.

Hsu acknowledged that different people have varying opinions on various issues but stressed that the quality of Dong Fa Hao's oil rice, meat soup, and noodles is undeniable. She concluded her post by asking, "How can we not support it?" Her actions aim to counter the negative sentiment online and rally support for the local business, highlighting the deliciousness of its offerings as a testament to its value.
