Taipei Councilor Slams DPP for Rejecting Shanghai Officials at Panda Event, Cites 'Persecution Complex'

Taipei City Councilor Chiu Hsin-hsin criticized the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for rejecting the attendance of Shanghai officials at a press conference for the debut of red panda cubs.

Chiu, a member of the Kuomintang party, stated that the DPP's decision to deny entry to Shanghai's Taiwan Affairs Office director and other officials for the event at the Taipei Zoo was an overreaction. She argued that the DPP's political ideology ruined what should have been a joyous occasion for Taipei residents and children.

"The DPP is always against China and has developed a persecution complex," Chiu said. She accused the party of politicizing normal cross-strait exchanges in conservation, culture, and grassroots interactions. Chiu asserted that the DPP consistently uses tactics of "smearing, covering up, and intimidation" in its approach to China, hindering practical municipal cooperation.

She further criticized the DPP for treating conservation exchanges as political battles and cute red pandas as security threats. Chiu called this "pan-politicization" operation, where "everything is politics and there is no place without united front tactics," a sign of extreme insecurity and an insult to Taiwan's democracy and citizens' intelligence. She urged the DPP to abandon its arrogant and self-deprecating political calculations and not let political interests interfere with children's simple joy of seeing red pandas.
