Taipei's Rongxing Garden Park to Undergo Major Renovation, Featuring New Mist Garden Plaza

Rongxing Garden Park, a significant green space in Taipei's Zhongshan District, is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation project commencing in July. The Taipei City Government's Parks and Street Lights Office plans a phased construction approach, with the entire upgrade expected to be completed by December 2028. The project prioritizes not only facility improvements but also the enhancement of overall environmental quality and ecological functions.

Key natural features, including the park's expansive lawn, ecological pond, and cherished firefly habitat, will be preserved. The renovation will introduce a 'mist garden plaza' in the area of the existing fountain, integrating water mist features with landscape design to create a versatile space for both relaxation and performances. The children's play area will also receive a significant upgrade, incorporating more challenging play equipment while maintaining its inclusive design for all ages.

Originally established as Taipei's first European-style garden by the Koo family of Lukang in 1971 and later acquired by the city government in 1989, Rongxing Garden Park has a rich history. It underwent previous renovations in 2001 and 2006, focusing on increasing green space and strengthening its ecological environment, notably reintroducing the ecological landscape of the Jiulong Canal and becoming a habitat for fireflies. The current project aims to address the gradual aging of park facilities and further elevate its ecological and recreational value.

The overarching vision for the park's redevelopment is a 'water-green garden where people and nature coexist.' Core elements of the plan include enhancing the water landscape, promoting ecological conservation, establishing seasonal green corridors, and developing thematic floral pathways. The project will also incorporate sustainable concepts like water permeability and conservation, alongside upgrades to existing floral trellises and the ecological pond area to support firefly populations.
