Taipei Zoo's New Penguin Chicks Delight Visitors with Fluffy Transition

Taipei Zoo is celebrating the arrival of three young African penguin chicks, born to different parent pairs in July and August. These fluffy newcomers are now visible in the black-footed penguin enclosure, marking a delightful phase for visitors. The oldest chick, nearing three months, has almost fully transitioned to its sleek gray-black adult plumage and is starting swimming lessons. Two younger siblings, about two months old, still sport remnants of their soft, gray-brown down on their necks and bottoms, often seen sticking close together. The zoo emphasizes that this 'fluffy transition' period is fleeting and unique, urging the public to visit and witness the chicks' growth. Visitors are reminded to avoid tapping on the glass or using flash photography to ensure the penguins' comfort. As more chicks mature, they will gradually join the exhibit, allowing observation of their social integration with the adult colony. The zoo also highlighted a related documentary, 'A Love Story,' playing at the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, which focuses on the romantic lives of African penguins.
