According to reports, the two individuals were returning to their guesthouse when the macaque suddenly appeared from the bushes. The motorcyclist braked sharply but still collided with the animal. Both riders were thrown from the bike, with one sustaining a large, muscle-exposing wound on their thigh. Fortunately, neither of the individuals suffered life-threatening injuries. Police recorded the 'monkey' as a party in the accident report due to its role in the collision. Local guesthouse owners have voiced concerns about the increasing presence of monkeys in coastal areas of Taitung.
