Man Shot Dead at Girlfriend's Wake After Accidental Killing; Shooter Dies by Suicide

A shocking act of revenge unfolded at a wake in Bangkok when a 27-year-old man, Phokhai, was fatally shot while paying respects to his girlfriend, whom he had accidentally killed days prior. Phokhai had been released on bail after the incident on July 29, where a firearm discharged while he was cleaning it, resulting in the death of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Nattawipa.

Phokhai attended Nattawipa's wake on August 1, intending to apologize for the tragic accident. However, his presence drew the ire of Nattawipa's close friend and her boyfriend, Nopparat. Witnesses reported that the friend confronted Phokhai, berating him for causing Nattawipa's death. Phokhai remained silent.

Suddenly, Nopparat pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at Phokhai, hitting him in the chest, abdomen, and head. Phokhai died at the scene. Two bystanders were also injured by stray bullets. Nopparat and his girlfriend fled the scene on a motorcycle, reportedly firing at police during their escape.

Nopparat later barricaded himself in a Bangkok apartment and began a live stream. Police surrounded the building, and after a negotiation, they entered the premises following two gunshots. They found Nopparat dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His girlfriend was rescued unharmed and is being questioned by authorities. The incident has left Nattawipa and Phokhai's two-year-old son orphaned.
