Taiwan braces for afternoon thunderstorms as Typhoon White Dolphin's path remains uncertain

Taiwan can expect scattered afternoon thunderstorms on July 30 as a cold air mass passes through at high altitudes, while the path of Typhoon "White Dolphin" remains uncertain but could affect the island's weather next week. Forecasters predict that daytime temperatures will range from 25 to 36 degrees Celsius across Taiwan. Northern areas will see highs around 36 degrees, central and southern regions between 35 degrees, and eastern areas around 33 degrees. The passage of the upper-level cold air mass increases the chance of localized thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas, prompting advice for those venturing into the mountains to be prepared for sudden weather changes.

From Friday, July 31, through early next week, the Pacific high-pressure system is expected to maintain stable atmospheric conditions. While most areas will experience partly cloudy to sunny skies, with rain primarily from afternoon convective activity concentrated in the mountains, southern and central regions might see isolated brief showers in the early morning. It is still advisable to carry rain gear when planning activities in or near mountainous terrain.

Typhoon "White Dolphin" is currently projected to move towards the waters between Japan's Kyushu and northern Taiwan before entering the East China Sea. WeatherRisk analyst Huang Kuo-chih noted that the typhoon's track is subject to significant changes and that it has the potential to influence Taiwan's surrounding atmospheric environment in the latter half of next week, leading to more unstable weather conditions with active afternoon convection.
