High Temperatures to Continue Across Taiwan, Reaching 36°C Amid Heatwave

Taiwan is currently experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar to 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit) in the Greater Taipei Basin and southern inland areas. This intense heat is forecast to persist through the upcoming week, bringing muggy conditions across the island.

While most of Taiwan will see sunny to partly cloudy skies, the Central Weather Administration has warned of localized thunderstorms in the afternoons, particularly in western and mountainous regions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant about changing weather conditions and carry umbrellas for protection.

Temperatures in eastern Taiwan are predicted to be around 32-33 degrees Celsius, while western areas will generally reach 33-35 degrees Celsius. Lows are expected to range from 25 to 27 degrees Celsius.

Air quality is also a concern, with levels varying across the island. Areas like Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and the Matsu, Kinmen, and Penghu islands are rated as 'good.' However, northern, Hsinchu, central, and Kaohsiung-Pintung regions are rated 'moderate,' with the northern region potentially reaching an 'orange alert' level.

The forecast indicates that high pressure from the Pacific will dominate from August 2nd to 5th, leading to more stable weather. However, daytime highs are expected to remain elevated, with western areas potentially exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. Citizens are advised to drink plenty of water to combat the heat and stay informed about weather updates.
