Taiwan braces for heavy rain in central, southern areas; northern, eastern regions to see afternoon showers

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) is forecasting significant rainfall for the central and southern parts of the island today, driven by a strengthening southwest monsoon. These windward regions can expect intermittent short-term showers or thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain likely. The southern areas, in particular, may experience more continuous and noticeable downpours.

Meanwhile, the northern and eastern regions of Taiwan will see partly cloudy skies with sunshine, interspersed with localized afternoon thunderstorms. The CWA warns of a possibility of heavy rain in northern Taiwan and various mountainous areas. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather changes, especially if venturing out in the afternoon.

Temperatures across the island are expected to be high, with daytime highs ranging from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius. Certain areas, including parts of Taipei, Changhua, and the southeast, could experience temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius or higher. The CWA also noted that ultraviolet (UV) radiation will be strong around midday, advising people to take precautions against sun exposure and stay hydrated. Additionally, strong winds are expected along the coasts of New Taipei and Hsinchu, as well as on Green, Orchid, and Matsu islands. Coastal areas in the southwest and east are also warned of potential high tides and seawater backflow due to the ongoing large tides, urging caution in low-lying coastal zones.
