Taiwan Candidate Pledges Public Toilet Upgrades Across County

Hsinchu County Magistrate candidate Cheng Chao-fang has unveiled a platform focused on "Public Space Quality Upgrade," with a particular emphasis on renovating the county's public restrooms. Drawing inspiration from successful initiatives in Hsinchu City, Cheng's proposal aims to comprehensively address the issues of old and unsanitary facilities in public toilets across all 13 townships and cities within Hsinchu County.

Public restrooms, though seemingly small, are daily details that every county resident encounters.

Cheng highlighted that improving public restrooms is not just about infrastructure but reflects a government's attentiveness to the daily lives of its citizens. He stated that while grand visions are important, meticulous care for everyday details is equally crucial for a city's progress. His plan involves a thorough inventory of public toilets in various locations, including parks, markets, libraries, tourist attractions, and key transportation hubs.

During his tenure as Hsinchu City mayor, Cheng oversaw the renovation of several public restrooms, transforming them from dark and uninviting spaces into aesthetically pleasing and functional public areas. The core principle behind these improvements, he explained, is to prioritize the needs of the users. The renovation plans will be tailored to different age groups and demographics, incorporating features such as child-sized facilities, enhanced accessibility with safety handrails, improved lighting, better ventilation, and increased privacy.

Cheng stressed that the cleanliness and quality of public restrooms significantly influence both the daily lives of local residents and the first impression visitors have of Hsinchu County. Cheng declared, vowing to apply the principles of "clean, bright, safe, friendly, sustainable, and easy to maintain" to the entire county, demonstrating that progress can be achieved by improving existing facilities, not just building new ones.
