Taiwan Couple and Accomplices Jailed for Brutal Attack on Sleeping Husband

A dispute over divorce negotiations escalated into a violent home invasion, resulting in severe injuries to a sleeping man. The attack was orchestrated by the man's estranged wife, who collaborated with her ex-boyfriend and two associates.

The wife and her ex-boyfriend were reportedly unhappy because divorce talks had failed and the husband had allegedly harassed the ex-boyfriend. In January, the ex-boyfriend, accompanied by two friends, entered the husband's rented residence. The wife drove the group to the location.

Upon entering, one of the assailants, identified as Chen, found the husband asleep on the sofa. After confirming the husband's identity with the ex-boyfriend, Chen attacked him with a large knife, slashing his abdomen. The victim woke up and attempted to dodge, but was further wounded on his arm and ankle.

The assault resulted in fractures to the victim's ribs and upper arm, as well as a severed nerve and open fracture in his ankle. He was rushed to the hospital and survived the attack. A court in Keelung recently sentenced the four individuals involved. The ex-boyfriend and Chen received three-year prison sentences for attempted serious injury, while the wife and the other accomplice were sentenced to 10 months and one year and four months, respectively, for assault.
