Taiwan expands 'super torrential rain' warnings as weather system intensifies

Taiwan is bracing for severe weather as the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has expanded its heavy rain warnings, including alerts for "super torrential rain" in several regions. The adverse conditions are attributed to the combined effects of Tropical Depression TD24 and a prevailing low-pressure system, intensified by strong southwest winds.

The CWA issued its latest heavy rain advisory at 7:25 AM, highlighting the risk of "super torrential rain" in the "purple zones," which now include the mountainous areas of Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Taitung County. Other areas are under "heavy rain" or "torrential rain" advisories. These include the northern coastal and mountainous areas of New Taipei City, mountainous regions of Taoyuan and Hsinchu, mountainous areas of Miaoli, plains of Taichung, and areas like Green Island and plains of Nantou County.

Specific "torrential rain" red zones are designated for Hualien County and the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County. Chiayi County has been upgraded from a heavy rain warning to a "torrential rain" alert. The CWA urges residents to be prepared for intense rainfall and potential disruptions caused by the severe weather.
