Taiwan Expressway Section Closed for Three Days for Bridge Work

A significant section of Taiwan's No. 61 Expressway, specifically the Zhongzhang Bridge in the Longjing section, will be completely closed to traffic for three days. The closure, scheduled from Friday evening, July 31, to Monday morning, August 3, is for crucial restoration work on the central median barriers of the bridge. The highway bureau's Taichung Maintenance Office is overseeing the project.

During the closure, traffic will be rerouted to alternative surface roads. For northbound traffic, drivers are instructed to exit at the 166 Shengang ramp and proceed via the No. 61 Expressway's surface road, Meigang Highway, and Taiwan Route 17, before rejoining the elevated main line at the 157 Longjing ramp. Southbound drivers should exit at the 157 Longjing ramp, use the surface road, continue straight across the Taiwan Route 17 Zhongzhang Bridge, turn right onto Meigang Highway, and then turn left to connect to the surface road before rejoining the elevated main line at the 166 Shengang ramp.

The highway bureau stated that conducting the work over the weekend is intended to minimize disruption to daily commuters. The road is expected to reopen for the Monday morning commute. Drivers are urged to follow posted signs and instructions for navigating the temporary detours.
