Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Advisory for 15 Counties, Warns of Torrential Downpours in Southern Cities

Taiwan is under a heavy rain advisory affecting 15 counties and cities, with the Central Weather Administration issuing specific warnings for torrential downpours in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. The advisory highlights the impact of a low-pressure trough combined with abundant moisture, which is expected to cause intense, short-duration rainfall across the island.

Beyond the southern regions, localized heavy rain is also possible along the northern coast, in central Taiwan, the eastern parts of the island (including Orchid Island and Green Island), and the Penghu archipelago. The weather agency is urging the public to be vigilant about potential hazards associated with the severe weather.

Authorities are advising residents to watch out for lightning strikes and strong wind gusts. In mountainous areas, there is a heightened risk of landslides, falling rocks, and sudden rises in river levels, prompting warnings against any activities in these zones. Additionally, low-lying areas are susceptible to water accumulation and flooding.
