Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Warnings for 12 Areas Amid Intense Thunderstorms

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration issued heavy rain advisories for 12 counties and cities on the afternoon of July 28, citing the development of strong convective clouds likely to cause intense, short-duration rainfall. The affected areas include Yunlin, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and other southern regions, as well as Nantou, Kinmen, and mountainous areas south of Taoyuan.

Specifically, Tainan experienced severe thunderstorms, prompting the administration to issue an immediate real-time warning for the city, which was set to last until 2:29 PM. Residents in mountainous areas were cautioned about potential landslides, falling rocks, and sudden rises in river levels due to the heavy downpours. Low-lying areas were also warned of potential flooding.

The advisory urged the public to be aware of the risks associated with lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind accompanying the storms. The weather agency's forecast highlighted the volatile nature of the current weather system, emphasizing the need for preparedness in the affected regions.
