Taiwan issues severe thunderstorm warnings for Pingtung, Taitung; heavy rain expected in Hualien

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has issued urgent warnings for severe thunderstorms in the southern and eastern parts of the island. Pingtung and Taitung counties are under immediate heavy thunderstorm alerts, with the forecast predicting intense rainfall and strong gusts.

The agency also issued special advisories for heavy rain and downpours across Pingtung, Hualien, and Taitung. These weather conditions are attributed to the outer circulation of an approaching typhoon. Specific areas like the mountainous regions of Taitung and Pingtung, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, are expected to experience localized heavy downpours or torrential rain.

Residents in affected areas, including Pingtung city, Hualien city, Green Island, and Orchid Island, should prepare for localized heavy rain. The weather administration emphasized the risk of short-duration, intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and thunder. Citizens are urged to exercise caution regarding potential waterlogging in low-lying areas, reduced visibility, and the dangers of lightning strikes.
