Taiwan Launches AI and Cybersecurity Competition to Nurture Digital Talent

Taiwan is bolstering its digital talent pipeline through a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Education and the Digital Development Administration. The "2026 31st University and College Information Application Service Innovation Competition" has officially kicked off, inviting students to showcase their skills in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Registration for the competition is open until October 5, providing a platform for university and college students nationwide to demonstrate their creativity and practical abilities. This annual event, now in its 31st year, serves as a crucial arena for fostering innovation in information application and digital technology. It also aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, with many past projects leading to further research partnerships and entrepreneurial ventures.

蔡宛霖 (Cai Wan-lin), section chief at the Ministry of Education's Department of Information and Technology Education, highlighted the competition's relevance in the rapidly evolving fields of AI, digital transformation, and information security. "Cultivating students' ability to use technology to solve problems has become an important goal of higher education," Cai stated. The competition includes several specialized categories designed to encourage innovative solutions: "Educational Open Data" prompts teams to utilize educational datasets, while "Cybersecurity Application" and "Cybersecurity Technology" focus on security aspects in various domains. The "Educational AI" category specifically encourages the development of AI applications for smart learning, teaching assistance, and educational management.

This initiative goes beyond just a competition; it integrates industry and academic participation, attracting cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary teams. The final round includes an exhibition and networking opportunities with businesses, aiming to provide students with practical experience and align their skills with industry demands.
