Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu returned to Taiwan after a U.S. visit, reporting a strong sense of American backing for the island's democratic system. Han led a bipartisan legislative delegation on a trip aimed at bolstering Taiwan's international ties and understanding U.S. perspectives on key issues. During their U.S. tour, the delegation engaged in significant congressional diplomacy, meeting with members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Han described these interactions as "sincere and enthusiastic," conveying a powerful message of U.S. congressional support and a friendly attitude toward Taiwan's democracy. The meetings covered crucial topics such as Taiwan-U.S. relations, regional security, technological cooperation, and economic development. Beyond Washington D.C., the delegation visited Phoenix, Arizona. There, they toured the Taiwan AI Biomedical Joint Exhibition Center and visited TSMC facilities. These visits provided insights into the investment environment and development potential in the region, as well as the state of industry cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. Business representatives accompanying the delegation raised several issues with their U.S. counterparts, including concerns about double taxation and the infrastructure responsibilities placed on companies investing in the U.S. Han stated that these concerns were communicated to U.S. congressional and administrative officials, who reportedly pledged to expedite efforts on tax matters and improve support for Taiwanese businesses by ensuring necessary infrastructure like utilities and roads are provided by the U.S. side. The Speaker also noted the significance of the new direct flight between Washington and Taipei, anticipating increased tourism and exchanges.
