Taiwan Legislature Passes Youth Account Act; Executive Yuan to Proceed with Existing Policies

Taiwan's legislature has passed the "Youth Growth and Future Account Act," a bill jointly proposed by the Taiwan People's Party and the Kuomintang. The act was approved with a majority vote, despite opposition from the ruling party.

In response, the Executive Yuan stated that it will continue to implement its existing policy plans. This includes the "Taiwan Population Strategy New Action Plan," which encompasses 18 family support measures covering "childbirth, upbringing, and education." A key component of this plan is a monthly growth allowance of NT$5,000 for every child aged 0 to 18.

The Executive Yuan will proceed with its existing policy plans and continue to promote relevant measures.

The Executive Yuan spokesperson, Li Hui-chih, emphasized that the government's policy proposals and budget allocations are constitutional duties. The proposed family support measures are based on international experience, financial assessments, and comprehensive planning, aiming to balance national finances with support for citizens and local development. The Yuan will proceed with these measures according to its established policy framework.

Furthermore, the Executive Yuan called on the legislature to expedite the review of the central government's budget. The current fiscal year's budget has been under review for nearly 11 months, and the next fiscal year's budget is also due to be submitted. The Yuan stressed the importance of timely budget approval for the normal functioning of the state and for restoring constitutional order.
