Taiwan Police Use 'Detective Conan' Movie to Teach Youth Drug Prevention and Anti-Fraud Skills

Taiwanese police are creatively integrating crime prevention education into popular culture, bringing the classroom into the movie theater. The Taichung City Police Department's Juvenile Police Squad invited 50 teenagers to watch the film "Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween." The event cleverly wove messages about drug prevention, anti-fraud, and traffic safety into the cinematic experience, aiming to equip young attendees with essential self-protection skills.

As part of the "Youth Fun Movie Day" event, held on July 28th, participants were greeted with an innovative setup. Before the movie began, a display of simulated drugs, including e-cigarettes, etomidate, marijuana, and ketamine models, attracted the attention of many students. Police also provided scent bottles simulating the smell of drugs, warning that illicit substances are often disguised with fruity or milky flavors and packaged as everyday items like "juice sticks" or "milk tea cups" to lower the guard of young people.

The police emphasized the importance of vigilance and firm refusal when encountering unfamiliar food items or e-cigarettes, which can lead unsuspecting individuals into drug traps. Additionally, interactive quiz sessions covered common online scams, high-paying job traps, and traffic safety knowledge. Students eagerly participated, with correct answers earning them "Detective Conan" card packs and folders. This approach transforms legal education from a one-way lecture into an enjoyable, interactive process that leaves a lasting impression. The Juvenile Police Squad hopes that by attending the movie, children will not only enjoy a film but also learn to identify drugs, prevent fraud, and follow traffic rules, integrating these protective skills into their daily lives for a safe and healthy summer.
