Taiwan Politician Pledges to Build Space Industry Ecosystem in Hsinchu

Taiwanese politician Chen Chien-jen visited the National Space Organization (TASA) to learn about low-orbit satellite development and Taiwan's space industry strategy. Chen, a candidate for Hsinchu mayor, pledged to create a comprehensive space industry ecosystem in the city if elected. He highlighted the industry's role as a national strategic sector crucial for security and economic growth.

Space industry is already one of the nation's six core strategic industries. The National Space Organization shoulders the important task of independent research and development and promoting the space economy. It not only concerns industrial development but is also an important part of national security.

Chen emphasized that Hsinchu is well-positioned to lead Taiwan's space technology development due to its existing science park, TASA, and strong academic institutions like National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and National Tsing Hua University. He stressed the importance of retaining talent and technology in Hsinchu to boost Taiwan's global competitiveness in the space sector.

Only by keeping talent, technology, and industry in Hsinchu can we enhance Taiwan's competitiveness in the global space industry.

Addressing TASA's current space constraints, Chen proposed collaborating with local and central governments to secure additional land for expansion. He aims to establish Hsinchu as the base for Taiwan's next "guardian mountain" – a term often used for major national industries – by integrating the science park, research institutions, and industrial supply chains. This initiative seeks to attract international cooperation and high-caliber professionals to the region.

If elected mayor, I will seize the opportunity of land redevelopment by CPC Corporation to assist the Space Center in obtaining development space through central-local cooperation, allowing Taiwan's next 'guardian mountain' to stay in Hsinchu.
