Taiwan Railways train fight: Elderly passenger and conductor injured after dispute over noise

A physical altercation erupted on a Taiwan Railways train, resulting in injuries to both a 75-year-old passenger and a 45-year-old train conductor. The incident occurred on August 7 aboard the 3237 local train as it traveled between Tianzhong and Ershui stations in Changhua. Witnesses reported that the elderly passenger, identified by the surname Yang, was loudly berating his daughter, causing a disturbance. A train conductor, who had just finished his shift, intervened to ask the man to lower his voice. This led to a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight in the aisle of the train car. The passenger, described as physically imposing, initially gained the upper hand. Another passenger intervened to help subdue the elderly man, who reportedly also attempted to choke the conductor and was sprayed with pepper spray. Both men sustained visible injuries, including bleeding. The train arrived at Ershui Station shortly after, where railway police took over the investigation. Both parties initially stated they would not press charges but later indicated their intention to file assault complaints. Police will summon both individuals for statements to clarify the events.
