Taiwan's Pingtung County Targets Philippines for Tourism Growth

Pingtung County is making a concerted effort to boost its international tourism by venturing into the Philippine market for the first time. Following successful engagements in Southeast Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, the county government launched promotional activities in the Philippines in August.

The delegation included representatives from the Pingtung County Tourism Association and the Pingtung Hengchun Peninsula Tourism Industry Alliance. They engaged with major airlines such as Starlux Airlines, China Airlines, and Asia Airlines. Meetings were also held with Philippine travel operators, including Travel Warehouse Inc. and Horizon Travel & Tours Inc., as well as the Philippine Travel Agencies Association. Discussions focused on understanding Filipino travelers' preferences, tailoring product offerings, and exploring cooperative marketing strategies.

Philippine tourism stakeholders expressed enthusiasm for creating joint promotional platforms with Pingtung and fostering exchanges between tour operators. This collaboration aims to enhance the overall reception quality and tourism chain efficiency. Pingtung County officials highlighted the significant potential of the Philippines as a source of tourists, noting the local interest in Taiwan's natural landscapes, cultural experiences, and cuisine. Yang Deng-shi, minister-counselor at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, pointed out Pingtung's unique appeal as Taiwan's southernmost county, boasting marine ecology, mountain and sea vistas, indigenous cultures, and distinctive food, all of which are advantageous for developing in-depth international tourism.

This inaugural market visit has established a communication channel between Pingtung and the Philippine tourism industry. It also provided valuable insights into local market demands, which will guide future overseas marketing efforts and international tourism product development. The Pingtung County government shared images of their delegation meeting with top Philippine travel agencies, underscoring the commitment to building these new international tourism ties.
