Taiwan sets up US-backed cyber unit to hunt hidden military threats

Taiwan’s military plans to establish a new cyber threat-hunting team as it strengthens cooperation with the United States and steps up defences against mainland China.

The Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command has earmarked NT$95.93 million, equivalent to US$3.03 million, in its proposed 2027 budget for the unit.

The funding would also bring foreign experts and instructors to Taiwan for advanced training. The budget plan still requires legislative approval. The source text does not provide further details of the programme’s planned focus.
