Taiwan to Cancel Entry Conveniences for Cambodians Amid Political and Scam Concerns

Taiwan will revoke visa-free entry and other special conveniences for Cambodian citizens, effective August 1. The decision comes as Taiwan seeks to assert its national dignity and border security, according to Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.

Wu explained that while Taiwan offers entry conveniences to certain countries, Cambodia has not reciprocated. He specifically pointed to Cambodia's government consistently supporting Beijing's "one China principle" and its stance on "reunification by force." Wu stated that these actions undermine Taiwan's sovereignty and the safety of its people.

Furthermore, Wu highlighted Cambodia's involvement in large-scale fraudulent operations that have significantly harmed Taiwanese citizens. He stressed that Taiwan's foreign policy is built on principles of equality and reciprocity. "Taiwan cannot unilaterally accept Cambodia's attitude of supporting reunification by force while harming Taiwan's national interests," Wu asserted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes Cambodia will engage in consultations to review bilateral relations. The ministry reiterated that Taiwan will not tolerate actions that damage its national interests.
