Taiwan to open phased military training applications in October for two-summer completion

Taiwan is continuing its "phased acceptance of regular military service training" program for eligible men. This initiative allows conscripts to complete their four-month military training over two consecutive summer vacations, balancing military obligations with academic and career plans.

To help conscripts studying in vocational or higher education institutions at home and abroad balance their studies, internships, further education, and employment plans, the Ministry of the Interior is continuing to organize "phased acceptance of regular military service training" this year.

The program is open to men born between 1994 and 2004 who are studying in vocational or higher education institutions, both domestically and abroad. Applications for the 2026 service period will be accepted from October 15 to November 15, 2024, through the National Conscription Agency's website.

Eligible conscripts can use the summer vacations of two consecutive years to complete four months of military training, balancing their military obligation with their studies and career plans.

Each year, the program offers approximately 1,100 slots, divided into three entry periods. This flexibility allows conscripts to choose a schedule that best suits their personal planning. Many participants have shared positive experiences, noting that completing military service during summer breaks avoids disruption to academic semesters and facilitates smoother transitions to further studies or the job market afterward.

The Ministry of the Interior will announce the specific entry dates and periods for the 2026 program by the end of September.
