Taiwan tourism body apologizes for Chinese emblem hats at event

Taiwan's Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has apologized after Chinese national emblem hats were mistakenly provided as props during a "stationmaster experience" event. The incident occurred on August 8 at the Checheng Railway Station during a "Railway Music Carnival."

Photos shared by a concerned citizen showed children and adults wearing the hats, which featured the emblem of the People's Republic of China, alongside regular Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) hats. The administration acknowledged that the vendor had mistakenly brought the wrong hats, which were an initial purchase error, and failed to remove them before the event setup. They expressed deep regret for the oversight and the failure to conduct a final inspection.

In response, the administration announced it would hold a review meeting with the vendor and take disciplinary action against internal staff for supervisory negligence.
