Taiwan U17 Girls' Volleyball Team Reaches World Championship Semifinals After Thrilling Win Over Thailand

Taiwan's U17 women's volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the World Championship after a hard-fought victory over Thailand. The team secured their spot by winning a thrilling five-set match with scores of 15:25, 26:24, 29:27, 22:25, and 15:7.

This achievement matches the team's best historical performance in the U17 World Championship, where they previously finished fourth. Taiwan earned their ticket to this year's tournament as the runner-up in the U16 Asian Championship last year.

In the preliminary round, Taiwan recorded two wins and three losses before advancing to the top 16. They swept Venezuela in the previous round. Against Thailand, the match was intense. Although Taiwan took a 2-1 lead in sets, they couldn't close out the match in the fourth set.

In the decisive fifth set, team captain Cheng Yung-yu's serves sparked a comeback. Taiwan's offense and defense successfully suppressed Thailand's performance. The winning point came from an attack by Chang Yun-chen on the sideline.

Chang Yun-chen was the top scorer for Taiwan with 25 points. Chen Ting-yi and Cheng Yung-yu contributed 15 points each, while Chan Tzu-yun added 13 points. Taiwan is scheduled to play Turkey in the semifinals. Turkey advanced by defeating South Korea in their quarterfinal match.
