Taiwan Woman Arrested for Alleged Drug Dealing While Posing as Elderly Caregiver

In Taiwan, a woman known as Ms. Gong has been arrested for allegedly leading a double life as a drug dealer. By day, she was seen as a "teacher angel" by the elderly in her community, assisting with dance, exercise, and handicraft classes at a private day care center and community activity center. However, authorities discovered that by night, she allegedly transformed into a "zombie drug dealer."

During a police search of her residence and studio, officers reportedly found Ms. Gong in the process of weighing and packaging heroin. The search yielded a significant quantity of drugs, including heroin, etomidate powder, and methamphetamine, along with related paraphernalia such as an electronic scale, vape cartridges, and cash. Police also seized mobile phones.

She claimed the drugs were for personal use, and the plastic bags were for packaging handmade crafts to give to the elderly.

Ms. Gong reportedly denied selling drugs, claiming the seized substances were for her own consumption. She also asserted that the numerous small plastic bags found were intended for packaging handmade crafts, such as bracelets and necklaces, to give to the elderly residents she assisted. This explanation was not accepted by investigators.

Prosecutors have since indicted Ms. Gong. The case highlights the dangers of drug trafficking and the stark contrast between public perception and private actions. Authorities emphasized that etomidate has been classified as a Schedule I narcotic, with severe penalties for its manufacture, transport, or sale.
