Taiwanese districts unite for disaster preparedness training

In response to the increasing frequency of extreme weather and complex disasters, Tainan City's Beimen, Xuejia, and Jiangjun districts have united to conduct a joint training program for disaster preparedness personnel. The initiative aims to bolster community self-rescue and disaster response capabilities, fostering a collaborative network to enhance local resilience.

The two-day training session took place at the Beimen District's Ke Liao Bao Ji Village Joint Activity Center. Participants included village chiefs, neighborhood chiefs, members of self-disaster prevention communities, volunteers, district office staff, and local residents. The joint effort seeks to build a disaster prevention partnership through cross-district cooperation, deepening disaster education and integrating community, volunteer, and civil society efforts to embed disaster prevention awareness into daily life.

Instructors from the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation led the training, covering Taiwan's disaster prevention system, disaster information management, personal and home protection measures, and the establishment and operation of evacuation shelters. Practical sessions included CPR, AED operation, and wound bandaging. Those who successfully complete the course and pass the exam will receive official certification as disaster preparedness personnel from the Ministry of the Interior.

Beimen District Chief Luo Chaocheng emphasized the importance of public participation in disaster prevention, especially with the rise of extreme weather events. He highlighted that disaster preparedness personnel serve as crucial community seeds, promoting awareness and establishing self-prevention concepts during normal times. During disasters, they can provide self-help, mutual aid, and support to public rescue efforts, becoming a vital force in safeguarding local safety.
