Taiwanese envoy reviews cooperation projects in Paraguay

Taiwan's Vice Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi arrived in Asunción to bolster bilateral ties and assess the progress of significant cooperation projects between Taiwan and Paraguay. The visit underscores the strong strategic alliance between the two nations.

During his visit, Chen Ming-chi met with Paraguay's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano. The discussions focused on the current bilateral agenda and the advancements of ongoing cooperation initiatives. Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening their alliance, which is founded on shared democratic values, technological collaboration, and sustainable development.

Several key projects were highlighted during the meetings. These include the construction of the Asunción General Hospital, a significant healthcare infrastructure initiative, and the development of the campus for the Paraguay-Taiwan Polytechnic University. The implementation of a Health Information System (HIS) was also discussed, aimed at enhancing national capabilities in priority development areas. Taiwan has committed US$20 million for the Asunción General Hospital project, which has a total cost of US$62 million, and US$27 million for the university campus.

Officials also reviewed progress in trade, legal matters, and technology following Paraguayan President Santiago Peña's visit to Taiwan in May. The economic relationship, characterized by sustained growth in bilateral trade, was emphasized, with Taiwan recognized as a key Asian partner and a strategic market for Paraguayan exports. The discussions also touched upon cybersecurity and artificial intelligence initiatives.
