Hsin-chun Ho, a candidate for mayor of Taichung, has launched a comprehensive five-point policy aimed at enhancing pet welfare in the city. Dubbed the 'Five Assurances for Pet Love,' the platform addresses critical needs for companion animals and their owners, reflecting Ho's self-proclaimed "dog person" identity.

Ho shared a deeply personal anecdote about a Maltese dog she raised for 11 years that went missing during her high school years. The experience, which involved her mother crying while searching for the lost pet, left a lasting emotional impact. This personal tragedy, compounded by the lack of microchipping technology at the time, fuels her commitment to ensuring no pet owner in Taichung experiences such distress.

With Taichung registering over 379,000 dogs and cats by June, ranking second nationally, Ho's policy acknowledges pets as integral family members. Key proposals include subsidizing animal hospitals to offer round-the-clock emergency services, fully funding the training of veterinary medical assistants, and providing free educational courses for pet owners. Additionally, the plan offers subsidies for the first vaccination and a free basic health check-up for newly adopted pets.

Supported by various veterinary associations and local council members, Ho aims to make Taichung a "Happy Pet Paradise." The policy seeks to bridge existing gaps in municipal animal welfare support and advocates for expanded national-level recognition, such as posthumous honors for animal revolution participants and inclusion in the preamble of the constitution.
