Taiwanese music stars shine at Tainan summer concert; Zheng Yi reveals weight loss

A summer music event in Tainan's Guanziling district brought together a constellation of Taiwanese musical talent, offering a nostalgic and vibrant evening for attendees. The "2026 Xilay Summer Chill - Guanziling Cool Summer Music Night" featured performances by renowned artists including Ma Yufen, "Folk Song Queen" Zheng Yi, the seldom-seen 90s singer He Fang, Lin Lung-hsuan, and the Southern Duo.

Ma Yufen, performing for the second time at the event, presented her own hits and classic songs composed by her late brother, Ma Chao-chun. Despite initial concerns about potential rain from a nearby typhoon's outer bands, the weather cleared for the evening's performances. A special highlight was Ma Yufen's collaboration with emerging artist "Brian" Feng Yao-hong on a new arrangement of "Guanziling Love," during which she engaged directly with the audience of over 2,000 people.

Lin Lung-hsuan opened his set with "Can't Resist You," a 1992 hit he wrote for Jeff Chang. He shared his connection to Tainan, revealing his current position as department head of the Popular Music Department at Tainan University of Technology. He humorously noted the university president's presence, using it as an opportunity to encourage aspiring musicians. He also performed his chart-topping collaboration with Paul Lee, "You Love Him So Much," lamenting that his son, Lin Ting-han, had to cancel a planned duet to record for Lang Lang in Hangzhou, leaving him to perform solo.

Veteran singer He Fang, making a welcome return to public performance, captivated the audience with a string of beloved classics like "Stop, Look, Listen," "The Wind Told Me," and "Just Like Your Tenderness." The familiar melodies prompted a sing-along, transforming the venue into a large-scale KTV and sparking waves of fond memories.

Closing the night, "Folk Song Queen" Zheng Yi delivered a powerful rendition of "Moonlight Lyre," her signature song from 45 years ago, proudly stating she has never lowered the key. She also shared a personal update, revealing a successful 13-kilogram weight loss achieved through a healthy diet and regular lifestyle. Zheng Yi emphasized the importance of health for continuing her passion for singing. She later joined Brian on stage for a duet, expressing optimism about the younger generation and her desire to share the stage with them, concluding the musical night on a warm note.
