Taiwanese pitcher Wang Yen-Cheng to start for Hanwha Eagles, aiming for sole KBO wins lead

Taiwanese left-handed pitcher Wang Yen-Cheng is scheduled to take the mound for the Hanwha Eagles on Saturday, tasked with ending the team's three-game losing streak in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League.

After a brief four-day rest, the 25-year-old Wang will make his 23rd start of the season. He currently holds a 10-4 win-loss record and is tied with LG Twins' right-hander Im Chan-kyu and three other pitchers for the league lead with 10 wins. The Eagles are hoping Wang can secure his 11th victory and claim the title of sole KBO wins leader.

Wang's previous start on August 11, following a league-wide pause due to extreme heat, saw him pitch five innings against the Doosan Bears. He allowed eight hits, including one home run, and surrendered three earned runs, raising his ERA to 3.43. While he did not factor into the decision in that game, the Eagles ultimately lost.

The Hanwha Eagles, currently sixth in the 10-team KBO, are facing the second-place Samsung Lions, who are on a three-game winning streak. The Lions are expected to counter with their recent acquisition, former MLB pitcher Chris Paddack.
