Taiwanese politician calls for bipartisan support for drone industry

Su Chiao-hui, the Democratic Progressive Party's candidate for New Taipei mayor, has called for cross-party collaboration to support Taiwan's burgeoning drone industry. Speaking at a "Land Dragon Boat" event in Sanxia, Su emphasized the importance of national defense and the development of indigenous technology.

Her remarks followed the Executive Yuan's announcement of a special budget of NT$210 billion aimed at enhancing the defense industry, with a specific focus on advancing domestic drone capabilities. Su expressed her hope that legislators from all parties would unite to support this initiative, framing it as crucial for safeguarding Taiwan's democracy, freedom, and security.

Beyond her political advocacy, Su Chiao-hui participated in the "Road Travel" event, an innovative adaptation of the Dragon Boat Festival tradition organized by the Sanxia Minquan Old Street Association. She sees such creative cultural activities as key to driving tourism and economic growth in the historic district.

Su also outlined her "Diamond Mountain City" plan, which aims to integrate various local attractions, including trails, railways, mines, tea routes, and old streets, to create a unique tourism experience. She believes this approach will showcase the distinct charm of New Taipei City and foster economic development, positioning the region for future growth in its tourism sector.
