Taiwanese Rescue Team Ready to Aid Japan After Kumamoto Quake

Taiwan's Chiayi County Search and Rescue Team is fully prepared to deploy to Japan following a powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture. As part of Taiwan's commitment to international aid, the team has completed all necessary preparations, including personnel, equipment, and supplies.

Chiayi County is currently in charge of Taiwan's international humanitarian rescue rotations for July and August. This responsibility involves maintaining a state of readiness to respond swiftly to major international disasters, as coordinated by the National Fire Agency. The team's preparedness ensures they can provide immediate support when called upon.

To enhance their capabilities, the Chiayi County Fire Bureau has established a partnership with Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. This collaboration ensures that the search and rescue team has access to essential medical support, including medications, surgical kits, and other medical supplies, strengthening their ability to provide medical assistance in disaster zones.

The Chiayi County Search and Rescue Team has earned the 'medium-sized search and rescue team' qualification through national accreditation processes. This certification underscores the professional standards of their personnel, equipment, and overall rescue capabilities. Beyond protecting local citizens, this qualification enables them to participate effectively in major domestic and international rescue missions.

County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang expressed the county's readiness to assist Japan. He conveyed hopes for a swift recovery for the affected region, the well-being of the injured, and peace for those who have passed. Taiwan stands in solidarity with Japan during this difficult time, offering full support for rescue efforts.
