Tambuwal, Dasuki seek urgent security intervention in Sokoto

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, has called for urgent federal intervention to address the escalating insecurity threatening communities within the state. Tambuwal conveyed these concerns during a meeting in Abuja with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), leading a delegation that included Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, the representative for Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency.

We conveyed the concerns of our people and stressed the urgent need for increased security presence, additional operational resources and sustained action to protect lives and property, and enable our people to pursue their livelihoods without fear.

The delegation informed the Defence Minister about the deteriorating security situation, which has left residents in a state of fear and uncertainty. They emphasized the severe consequences for lives, property, agriculture, and other economic activities in the affected areas, specifically mentioning Kebbe Local Government Area and the Kaya community within Tambuwal Local Government Area.

Tambuwal stated that the meeting provided a crucial opportunity to directly communicate the residents' concerns to the Defence Minister and to advocate for immediate measures to bolster security operations. He stressed that residents can no longer endure persistent threats and highlighted the necessity for an increased security presence and adequate operational resources to safeguard communities and restore public confidence.

General Musa assured the delegation of the Federal Government's commitment to tackling the security challenges. He promised to provide additional resources and operational support to reinforce ongoing operations in the affected regions. Tambuwal welcomed these assurances, noting the growing demand from residents for stronger military and security interventions. He expressed optimism that the assurances would translate into swift, concrete actions on the ground, enabling residents to return to their livelihoods without fear.
