Tampere to host nine days of Finnish rock music

Tampere, Finland, is celebrating its first-ever Suomirock festival, a nine-day event dedicated to Finnish rock music running from August 1 to 9. The festival aims to bring together concerts, associated events, and a special focus on the history of "Manserock," a distinct style of rock music originating from the city.

The festival kicks off on Saturday, August 1, with the "Manserock stadionilla" concert at Tammela Stadium. The following day, Finnish rock will be featured at the Puistofiesta in Hämeenpuisto park. The week culminates with three highly anticipated farewell concerts by the iconic Finnish band Eppu Normaali at Ratinan Stadium from August 6 to 8. These performances are expected to attract close to 100,000 fans.

According to Saara Saarteinen, Tampere's event manager, the idea for the themed week emerged from an exceptionally busy summer of events and the 70th birthday of Pauli "Pate" Mustajärvi, the lead singer of Popeda, another prominent Manserock band. "Suomirock songs are part of the shared memory of Finns," Saarteinen stated in a press release.

A notable new attraction is the "Manserock sing along" area in Koskipuisto park. From August 1 to 9, visitors can sing along to well-known Manserock hits daily between 2 PM and 8 PM. The area will be equipped with sound systems and a large screen displaying lyrics.

Throughout the week, various restaurants will host Suomirock-themed evenings, bingo, and club gigs. The history of Manserock can also be explored at the Vapriikki museum's Manserock exhibition and along the "Manserock trail" connecting Kaleva and the city center. The beginning of August in Tampere will be bustling with other events, including the Tampere Theatre Festival, Night of Events, Philharmonic park concerts, and a "Moomin – The Grand Celebration" event at Tampere Hall.
