Tánaiste on US visit to meet with G20 finance ministers

Simon Harris is travelling to North Carolina for a two-day meeting with G20 finance ministers as Ireland continues its role in the EU presidency. The Tánaiste and finance minister will attend alongside European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.

Harris is also scheduled to meet Britain’s new Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Healey, and Canada’s Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne. G20 finance ministers and central bank governors are expected to discuss the global economy, with energy security and financial stability receiving additional attention.

Ireland will host further EU presidency meetings this week. Defence ministers from 17 EU member states are due to arrive for an informal summit chaired by Ireland’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Minister Helen McEntee.

The defence ministers will hold a day-long meeting in Wicklow on Tuesday. Discussions will include Russia’s war in Ukraine and EU security. EU foreign ministers will meet in Ireland on Wednesday to discuss transatlantic relations and the Middle East.
