Tanjung Priok Customs Foils Smuggling of Used Harley-Davidsons from China

Tanjung Priok Customs has successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle used Harley-Davidson motorcycles and frames into Indonesia from China. Officials at Tanjung Priok Port seized 5 disassembled used Harley-Davidson motorcycles (completely knocked down/CKD) and 20 used Harley-Davidson frames.

The operation was initiated after customs officers detected anomalies in the container scanner results for shipments originating from China. These shipments were found to have been misdeclared in the customs documents. An in-depth physical inspection of two containers revealed the illegal motorcycle parts.

The importation of used motor vehicles is explicitly prohibited under Indonesian Ministry of Trade Regulation No. 24 of 2025. This regulation covers both new and used imports, as well as non-hazardous waste. The use of advanced container scanner technology, combined with intelligence analysis and targeted physical inspections, was crucial in uncovering the smuggling attempt.

Adhang Noegroho Adhi, Head of Tanjung Priok Customs, emphasized the agency's commitment to protecting the public and domestic industries from illegal imports. He stated that the agency will continue to strengthen surveillance at major trade entry points and strictly enforce customs and import regulations to ensure legal compliance and a fair business climate in Indonesia.
