Tanker truck blocks highway in both directions after overturning

Traffic on Croatia's A4 highway, a key route connecting Goričan and Zagreb, came to a complete standstill early Monday morning due to an overturned tanker truck. The incident occurred around 5:15 AM on the 35th kilometer of the highway, leading to the closure of the road in both directions between the Varaždinske Toplice and Varaždin junctions.

According to the Varaždinske Toplice Police Department, the truck was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there is no immediate risk of fire. However, the tanker overturned across the roadway, creating a dramatic scene and causing significant disruption.

Around 5:30 the highway was closed for both directions, and they occasionally let one lane through towards Zagreb, and currently firefighters are cleaning up the scene.

Emergency services, including firefighters from DVD Kneginec and Varaždinske Toplice, are currently on site working to clear the scene and manage the situation. Police have confirmed that one lane towards Zagreb may be temporarily opened intermittently. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

Authorities are urging all drivers to use alternative routes to avoid the affected area. The closure has led to substantial traffic backups, and the duration of the disruption remains uncertain as cleanup and investigation efforts continue.
