Taoyuan candidate slams mayor for delaying industrial zone expansion

Taoyuan Mayoralty candidate Huang Shih-chieh has accused incumbent Mayor Chang San-cheng of deliberately delaying the expansion of the You-Shih Industrial Zone for three and a half years. Huang alleges that Chang's administration's inaction has stalled a project that was already in progress under the previous mayor.

Huang stated that the expansion plans for the You-Shih Industrial Zone Phase 2 began in 2020 under former Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan. By the end of 2022, the previous administration had completed all necessary procedures and submitted them to the central government's urban planning committee. Huang asserts that these plans predated any potential relocation of TSMC to Longtan Science Park Phase 3.

However, Huang claims that after Chang took office, only two project team meetings were held over three and a half years, effectively halting the expansion. He further criticized Chang for not addressing issues raised by manufacturers, such as inadequate roads and the lack of a sewage treatment plant in the first phase of the industrial zone. Huang suggested that Chang is only bringing up the You-Shih Industrial Zone expansion now due to the upcoming election, accusing him of a "speculative mentality" and a desire for political achievements without genuine problem-solving.

Huang also accused Chang of driving TSMC out of Taoyuan three years ago and is now rushing to present achievements before the election. He believes that if the city government had followed the established procedures, the expansion plans could have been completed much earlier. Chang's current efforts, according to Huang, highlight his previous three years of inaction and his indifference in his final year in office, aiming only to solicit votes.
