Youth Committee Member Accused of Self-Dealing in Overseas Trip Funding

A youth committee member in Hsinchu City faces accusations of "self-dealing" after allegedly using government funds intended for an overseas "dream-making" program for personal travel. The controversy centers on the selection process for a trip funded by the Ministry of Education's Youth Hundred Billion Dream-Making Plan and city resources. Critics claim the process was "black box," with committee members acting as both judges and applicants, questioning the fairness and transparency of how 15 selected youths, including at least two current committee members, were chosen for a trip to Arizona, USA.

The Hsinchu City Government's Youth Development Center has responded by asserting that the selection process was public and equitable. They explained that the "Entrepreneurial Special Forces - Arizona" program, focused on innovation and career development, was approved by the Ministry of Education's Youth Development Administration. The center stated that two external committee members and one representative from the proposing body were involved in the final selection. While two current youth committee members were among the 15 selected participants, the city insists they followed the same application and evaluation procedures without receiving special treatment.
