Taoyuan Social Housing Exceeds 10,000 Units, Occupancy Goal by 2030 in Sight

Taoyuan City has achieved a significant milestone in its social housing program, with the total number of units either under construction or awarded contracts now exceeding 10,000. The recent awarding of contracts for 970 units in Dayuan's Hengpu section and 121 units in Guanyin's Caofu section brings the total to 10,054 units.

Mayor Chang San-cheng expressed confidence that the city is on track to meet its goal of having 10,000 social housing units ready for occupancy by 2030. With over three years remaining until the deadline, the current pipeline of projects ensures sufficient construction time. The city is prioritizing not only the supply of housing but also the overall living quality and surrounding environment.

Chang highlighted that new social housing projects are being designed with an emphasis on integrated living experiences. Many are planned near natural features like ponds and green spaces, and will include amenities such as libraries, parking lots, and playgrounds. This approach aims to challenge the public's outdated perception of social housing as being of poor quality.

While acknowledging potential adjustments in national social housing policies, Taoyuan City remains committed to its housing initiatives. The city is actively communicating with the central government regarding its "Taoyuan City Affordable Housing Self-Government Ordinance," which is currently under central review. The city hopes to utilize social housing and other affordable housing tools to further the cause of housing justice.

The Dayuan Hengpu project, located in the core area of the Aerotropolis, will offer 970 residential units and include a public childcare center, a day care facility for individuals with disabilities, and shared spaces for young residents. It will also feature ground-floor commercial spaces to foster community activities and integrate with a nearby pond park. The Guanyin Caofu project, situated near the Caotun Sand Dune and the coastal highway, will provide 121 units, commercial spaces on the first floor, and an open recreational area, along with an underground parking lot.
